Weekly Devlog - #1
Hello Everyone!
Thanks for checking in to read our first weekly dev log! Here we will discuss some of our highs and lows of our journey creating CozyTyper as a new development team. Specific patch notes will be in the posts titled with the patch number.
Outlook
With CozyTyper being the first game project we've taken this far, we have learned so much along the way about the workflow of a project. A good project management platform can make all the difference. We have just started using a new platform and it is showing great promise. CozyTyper started as a little experiment, and the code is in need of a lot of refactoring, but we are really excited about it as a proof of concept.
Lessons Learned
One of the main lessons we've learned is a lesson that seems like such an obvious thing in hindsight! Most of the delays in our project so far have been because we waited until we were ready to publish the first playtest, before we tested the built versions of our games. This meant that we were met with errors that weren't present in the Unity Editor, especially when working to bring our game to itch, playable in the browser. We were met with a number of errors that were more time consuming to correct simply because we had never tested the game in WebGL before this point! Because of this stumble, we have taken a valuable lesson away from this experience - make builds early, and make them often.
Feedback
Before publishing our first playtest, we were nervous to step into the world of public feedback. We love the game we are making, and we want other people to love it, too! Fortunately, the feedback given was nothing short of constructive and helpful, and thanks to this, we have been brainstorming full-force, coming up with a renewed scope for CozyTyper that we are excited to continue to work on!
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. we greatly appreciate it and hope that you'll come back for future playtests to help us make sure that CozyTyper becomes a game that we'll all continue to enjoy!
